Tandem Skydiving is available at Skydive Opelika on an appointment basis.

A tandem jump is done with two people on one parachute. The passenger is securely fastened to the instructor, and the parachute is significantly larger in order to support the two people. A tandem jump is typically done as a way to be introduced to the sport without as much training necessary.

Is it safer?
The USPA (US Parachute Association) publishes all incident reports on its websites. It has been proven again and again that sport parachuting is an extremely safe sport. Nonetheless, accidents do happen. Tandem parachuting tends to be safer due to the fact that an inexperienced person is not in the sky alone.

A tandem jump costs $175. If you go to other places, the price will be more expensive. It is almost impossible to find a better price. The tandem jump does not count as a first jump course.

$25 goes to the jump master (the guy strapped to your back)
$95 goes to wear and tear on the airplane and the parachute
$10 goes to the guy who packs your parachute
$60 goes to fuel for the airplane

The club does not get any money from your jump.

Can I get a video of my jump?
The video is available by a professional freefall photographer. You'll get a fully edited and developed video and plenty of photographs of you before, during, and after your jump. The cost for video is about $65 per person. For the exact price, you'll have to ask on the day of your jump. It depends on who's doing the video.

The video is highly recommended for tandem parachuting! There's no better way to remember this once in a lifetime experience. To see what your video would look like, check out our example here.

A tandem class lasts about 30 minutes. You'll sign a legal waiver, learn how to exit the plane, and you'll be able to ask any questions you have. After that, you'll put some gear on and get in the plane! The entire process can take less than an hour.

The main reason to go tandem is because it is the cheapest and easiest way to experience freefall. If you only want to make one jump, going tandem is your best bet. If you plan on making more than one jump, or becoming licensed, it is recommended that you use the static line method.
