As of January 2011, Skydive Opelika closed down to the general public. It is still open on a limited basis to friends and experienced jumpers.

Here is the public knowledge of the situation:
1) A student was injured in August due to an improper use of a main parachute, and emergency parachute procedures were not taken correctly.
2) This student sued the dropzone for liability despite the waiver that is commonly signed by all who participate in the sport.
3) This student's most recent waiver was unable to be found after the dropzone had been served.
4) A less recent waiver was found in stored files and was contested as valid by the student.
5) The waiver was found to be valid by a handwriting analysis expert.
6) The trial is in the process of being moved from Macon County to Lee County as required by the waiver.
7) Once the trial has been moved to Lee County, it is expected to be a short trial due to the signed waiver.

The dropzone is currently not allowing students to jump for liability and legal reasons.
If you are an experienced jumper, especially one with your own gear, contact us and we'll jump!

More information on the status of the lawsuit is not publicly available, but questions are welcome. Contact us.
